Not Sleeping

And the sleep thing.... its a tricky one. I told you. I know I have to get up at middle of the night o'clock and I can't fall asleep. I didn't take a nap today. I worked out. I kept moving all day. So why does my brain not want to shut off? I could go out to the studio and paint. I'd totally do it in my nightgown and everything. But once I start that up there's no way I will wind down and sleep. Grrr. Random thought: At my daughter's soccer practice tonight a pigeon flew right into the middle of our group of parents and just hung out with us. I think it was actually someone's pet. It looked to clean and healthy to be a street pigeon. We don't have that many street pigeons in our neighborhood anyway. And it was not afraid of people at all. Art things because I told you if you wanted to know about art related things you would want to come to the blog. I cannot sit around and wait for inspiration to hit. I need...

Stealing time

My schedule is so chaotic. There has been very little time for painting. Still I manage to squeeze in some time. I've also been studying other artists. Refueling my creative reserves if you will. This piece is still coming along very slowly. I've had some battles trying to define the back ground. Deciding I may not like the long rectangular shape in the foreground. Making new adjustments. I've been writing a lot about my pieces as I work on them. I've found that helps me make better decisions on what I'm doing. This is the terrible plein air watercolor I did a couple of weeks ago. I brought it home and started adding to it. Its starting to get there but I may end up doing some collage over it. This was a very good exercise for me. Yes, it was not my best painting but I learned a lot in the process. Forever the student. Working on another landscape. This is the under painting. Failed Self Portrait

This one just did not work out. It doesn't look like me and I'm not happy with the colors. I used a thick layer of wood glue glaze over the top of it hoping it would help the color. Unsuccessful. I can't believe how bad this portrait turned out. So, I decided to deconstruct it a bit, No where to go but up, right? Okay. It turned out a bit creepy but it gave me ideas on how to make that wood glue work for me in the future. I consider this one a failure that turned into an opportunity for learning a new technique. I'm kind of excited to try this out on other pieces now.
